General Information
Ms. Burleson - Counseling
Welcome to the Counseling Department. I have been the school counselor at Gold Camp since 2007. Prior to coming to Gold Camp, I taught for 12 years. During the last few years of teaching, I pursued a Master of Arts degree in school counseling. I feel privileged to be a part of this special community. I love the challenge of the many facets of the job of school counselor. I enjoy hearing from parents, so feel free to contact me with questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions.
I can be reached by phone during the school day. I am in classrooms or with students much of the day, but you may leave a message. My extension is #61. I make every attempt to return phone calls the day I receive them, yet the direct needs of the students are a priority during the school day. You can also send me an e-mail by clicking the small envelope next to my name below:

Program Information
The counseling program at Gold Camp Elementary school is designed to help your child make the most of his or her educational experience. As your child’s counselor, I am concerned with all students’ personal and social development, academic progress, and emotional well-being. We may set goals as a group or individually in each of these areas.
Classroom guidance lessons are taught using a curriculum developed by Committee for Children. This curriculum is a bullying prevention program, designed to help create a positive, safe, and bullying-free learning environment for all students. Some of the topics covered in the program are:
- Making friends
- Joining group activities
- Managing conflicts
- Recognizing, refusing, and reporting bullying
- Problem-solving skills
- Refusal skills
- Self-esteem
Additionally, I meet with small groups of students and individual students as needed. I frequently meet with teachers, other staff members, and parents. I support parents, students, and teachers with a range of services. This could include things such as referrals, resources, consultations, and goal-setting or problem-solving. I conduct ongoing small groups, based on student need. These may include:
- Friendship/Social Skills Group: Making and Keeping Friends
- Deployment Support Group
- Divorce Support Group
- Grief Support Group
- Controlling impulses or strong emotions
Please contact me if you are interested in your child being part of a small group.
